Charlbi Dean, an actress whose star had just begun to rise with a starring role in Palme d'Or winner "Triangle of Sadness," has died suddenly on August 29 th reportedly in a car accident in New York a representative for the actress confirmed to news agencies. However the actual cause of her death is not confirmed. She was 32.

Dean, who was sometimes credited as Charlbi Dean Kriek, hailed from South Africa and got her start as a model. She was from Cape Town. Her first film credit was 2010 comedy "Spud," starring Troye Sivan and John Cleese. Until her co-starring role opposite Harris Dickinson and Woody Harrelson in the celebrated Ruben Östlund film, Dean was best known for playing Syonide, a recurring character on The CW’s DC Comics-based series Black Lightning. Dean, who survived a near-fatal car accident in 2008, was engaged to model Luke Volker, who wrote from Cannes that he "couldn't be more proud" of her. In Triangle of Sadness, the first English-language film from Swedish Force Majeure director Ruben Östlund, Dean and Harris Dickinson play a celebrity fashion-model couple on a cruise for the ultra-rich that descends into chaos. It also stars Woody Harrelson as the ship’s captain.
